Decorative Items in Lovely Farm

*****************************************************************************
Decorative Items serve a genuine purpose in Lovely Farm in terms of raising a player's Level of experience as well as beautifying the landscape. It is by purchasing Decor that a player often can increase his/her Level faster than simply through the planting and harvesting of Crops.

Some items of Decor are Gifts but the bulk of these items are available at the Shop. As with other items in Lovely Farm, some have prices in Coins while others can be purchased solely with Diamonds.

Decor

As with respect to Trees and Animals, you can obtain some Decor Items only as Gifts from other players. The Gift Items will not appear in the Shop Menu but have been included here in a separate section as Decor Gifts. Note that there are some errors in-game where the selling value of an item is concerned. Often the Diamond icon is shown next to the amount where in fact it should be Coins. As far as I know, there are NO Gift items that can be sold for a return in Diamonds instead of Coins.

You may notice that the Smiley Balloons have different prices depending on whether you are purchasing one for yourself or buying one to send as a Gift. There is a difference in XP Gain as well. If you purchase a Smiley for yourself, the cost is 2 Diamonds and XP Gain is 160 but if you send one to a Neighbour/Friend, the cost is 1 Diamond and XP Gain for the recipient is only 80. On the whole, XP Gain depends on price in Lovely Farm. it makes sense, therefore that a Gift Item that costs 1 Diamond will be worth only half the XP Gain of the same Item when purchased for 2 Diamonds.

Landscaping as an Art in Lovely Farm

*****************************************************************************
When I become enthusiastic about any game, I like to share my enthusiasm with other players as well as friends who play games occasionally. I was induced to try some of the Facebook games by a fellow fan of Harvest Moon and Rune Factory. When I did, I discovered that other friends and HM fans played some of the same games, not surprisingly. There were a couple of games that I discovered independently, however and these have proven to be my own personal favourites. The two Facebook games that I like best are Fantasy Kingdoms and Lovely Farm.

Neither of these games require that much strategy but, like most games on Facebook, they do demand regular interaction if you wish to do any real farming. Crops will wither if not harvested in time in most of the Farming Simulation games on Facebook with the exception of a game called Tiki Island, where they appear to last indefinitely, although over-ripe Crops may attract insects.

Be that as it may, I have found that many of the HM/RF players I know have not responded as positively to Lovely Farm as I did. They found it tedious and did not perceive any challenges... BUT they never played the game long enough to discover its beauty or the challenges that regular players discover.

Fantasy Kingdoms is very similar to Lovely Farm, actually, but the same players that neglected to pursue Lovely Farm have responded to and been inspired by the Competitions that are posted by the creators of the game. Due to this, they made real efforts to increase their levels and in doing so, and in expanding their kingdoms, they found their own challenges in the game.

I hope some of them can be persuaded to return to Lovely Farm if I post screenshots of truly Lovely Farms to show how it holds equal magic in its own unique style.

For, truth to tell, the real challenge in both Fantasy Kingdoms and Lovely Farms ultimately is in landscaping. It is a desire for beauty rather than riches that persuades players to increase their levels and to obtain Friends who can send them the Gifts that will enhance the beauty of their Farms or Kingdoms. It is a desire for beauty that fuels a player's efforts in growing and harvesting sufficient Crops to raise their Levels to unlock new items and to earn enough Coins to purchase those items.

Fantasy Kingdoms is more overtly magical than Lovely Farm, with pet Dragon Faeries and Unicorns and magical herbs as Crops. I adore Fantasy Kingdoms but it rather sells itself. Lovely Farm is more subtle in a way. Although the Crops are gorgeous, you really need to increase your Levels and have high-Level Neighbours in order to be able to experience or obtain the items with the greatest beauty and those that will allow you to truly indulge in landscaping.

Each of the two games has its own advantages and disadvantages. In Lovely Farms, you do not earn ANY Diamonds when your levels increase. This is very unfortunate, as many players are loath to invest real money in any Facebook game. In Fantasy Kingdom, you do earn one Kingdom Cash for each Level increase. If you want to purchase the most magnificent items, you still will be persuaded to invest real money in the game, but the fact that you have SOME Kingdoms Cash makes players more willing to purchase more. In Lovely Farm, many players simply resent the fact that many of the items are out of their reach unless they purchase Diamonds.

Where landscaping is concerned, however, Lovely Farm has a tool that is extremely helpful. It is found by pressing the 'eye' icon in the lower right corner of the screen. You then will be able to access a pull-down menu that lists every type of item in the game, including Machinery, which has not been introduced yet to players.
Each of the categories has an eye icon next to it. When you press this icon, all items in that category will vanish from your Farm, leaving only squares on the ground to show where they are placed. This really helps when you wish to be able to plant Crops or Trees behind other items such as Buildings. More than once, a Crop in Fantasy Kingdoms has become bewitched because it was obscured by another item and I forgot that I could not see it without moving the item that concealed it. With the aid of the landscaping tool in Lovey Farm, this unfortunate loss would not occur.

All you Need to Know about Gifts in Lovely Farm

Screenshot of Peacocks, one of the most striking and dramatic Gifts unlocked at a fairly high level in Lovely Farm.

**************************************************************************

My IGN Guide for Lovely Farm has been updated now and includes the following information but as I realise many people never access my Guides on IGN, I am posting the section from the Guide here as well:

As in other Facebook Games, it is through Free Gifts that players are
encouraged to participate in Lovely Farms initially. Lovely Farm, however,
offers a variety of Items as Gifts that actually have prices either in Diamonds
or Coins.

Where Free Gifts are concerned, you can send only one Gift per day to each of 15 of
your Neighbours and/or Friends. If you send a Paid Gift to a Neighbour or
Friend, you should be able to send a Free Gift as well. There appear to be no limits as to the number of Paid Gifts that can be sent to any Neighbour.

Some Gifts have Level requirements as well in terms of the Giver. This is one area where Neighbours can be extremely helpful, especially if they are diligent in earning Levels that allow them to send the best Gifts. The number of Neighbours a player has is significant in terms of unlocking land upgrades with prices in Coins as opposed to Diamonds. Even Neighbours who never play the game can be useful in terms of daily Visits to earn money for the Player and in terms of fulfilling land upgrade requirements. It is only Neighbours who play the game, however, who will be able to give a Player items he/she otherwise never can obtain.

Free Gifts span the various Categories of Items and can be Trees, Animals or Decor.

As of July 2010, the complete Gift Menu, in the order in which items appear, is as follows. The information in brackets is the general price, whether Free, a cost in Diamonds or in Coins. In the detailed section that follows, Gifts have been divided into two general Categories, Free and Paid and all information, including Price, any Harvest information, XP Gain, Charm, value when sold and Level Requirements is provided.

Gift Strategies

In any Farming Simulation game on Facebook, the Gifts that Friends/Neighbours
can send to you daily can be a great boon to you, especially at the start. In
Lovely Farm, the Gift Menu includes a couple of Animals and Trees that are
available at Level 1 to send as Gifts. These are the items that generate
income regularly and the value is as follows:

Free Trees:

Orange Tree: +8 Coins
Olive Tree: +15 Coins

Free Animals:

Ostrich:
Egg: +30 Coins
Pig:
Truffles: +60 Coins

Unlike Crops, Fruits on Trees and Ranch Products will last indefinitely once
they become ready for harvest. You therefore should not underestimate the
value of these items on your Farm.

Other Free Trees and Animals are unlocked as Gifts at higher Levels. The
complete List of Gift Items is given in another section of this Guide.

As you can see, the Free Gift with the highest value at Level 1 of those that 'keep ongiving' is the Pig. You can earn +60 Coins whenever you gather the Truffles that he finds on your Farm. Once Level requirements have been met, there are other Gifts that provide greater XP Gain when placed and a better income on a regular basis.

Beyond 'Lovely' to Gorgeous...

Having high-Level Neighbours in any Farming Simulation game can prompt a variety of emotions, including envy. One of the positive emotions it can elicit is to inspire a player to double his/her efforts to reach similar levels. Seeing how beautiful high-Level items have been used in landscaping on a Neighbour's farm is far more impressive than simply viewing a little picture of an item displayed in the local Market or Shop.

Here then are some screenshots of a few high-Level Farms that go beyond Lovely to Gorgeous.

One has the opportunity to 'help' all Neighbours in Lovely Farm once each day. Although there are financial advantages and an increase in XP when you help any Neighbour, another advantage is the ability to view beautiful Farms with items that you have not been able to unlock yet in your own game.

The Dangers of Impatience in Lovely Farm

All the Farming Simulation Games on Facebook have some similarities where Experience or XP is concerned. Generally, the fastest-growing Crops are associated with the least amount of XP Gain while the slowest-growing Crops give more XP. In some games, like Farmville, there are only two values given to Crops: 1 XP or 2 XP. You therefore are not likely to choose a specific Crop simply for the XP value associated with it. Other considerations, such as the market value of the Crop, a desire to gain all three Mastery stars or the need to obtain Bushels as ingredients in a Recipe to Craft Goods will be more important considerations on the whole.

In Lovely Farm, on the other hand, Crops can have XP Gains that range from 1 to 5. As in other Farming Simulation Games, the number of hours a Crop takes to mature determines its XP value, but there are slight variations in the number of hours associated with each value.

I have written about this a little in another post. If you have easy and regular access to the internet and can pay attention on the game constantly, you would do well to plant the fastest-growing Crops in order to gain the maximum amount of XP.

For a player at low Levels, the fastest growing Crop is White Radish, available at Level 1. It matures in 4 Hours, giving 1 XP. If you water it before it matures, you gain +1 XP for that action as well. You cannot water a Crop once it reaches full maturity at 100% but can water it even at 99%. Crops cannot be watered more than once during their growth periods, which means that you gain as much XP from watering the fastest growing Crop as from one that takes days to mature.

At Level 6, you will unlock the Cabbage, which takes 8 hours to mature but gives 2 XP, the same amount given by a Crop that takes a full 12 hours to mature. You still can earn more Experience by growing White Radishes provided always that you water them mid-cycle. If you do not water them, you will earn equal XP by planting Cabbages every 8 hours.

At Level 13, you will unlock the Raspberry, the fastest growing Crop, maturing in only 2 Hours. Remember that a Crop that matures in 2 Hours will wither before another two hours has expired. You therefore need to maintain an almost constant watch on your Farm if you decide to grow Raspberries and reap the maximum XP and profit from your efforts. Water the Raspberries in order to gain +2 XP from each Crop even before you harvest it. Harvesting the Raspberries will give you another point of XP unless your Neighbours have fertilised the Crop, which will boost the XP Gain from the harvest to +2 XP.

Money probably will be an issue even when you have reached Level 13 so you run the risk of losing all of your hard-won Coins if you allow a field filled with ANY Crop to wither. Raspberry Seeds cost 27 Coins and each harvested Raspberry gives 39 Coins. White Radish Seeds cost only 15 Coins and yield 27 Coins, the price of a Raspberry Seed. Cabbages cost 19 Coins and yield 35 Coins, almost the same amount as a Raspberry at harvest.

Greed and impatience are your worst enemies in any Facebook Farming Simulation game. It is far better to plant a Crop that you KNOW you will be able to harvest safely before its term of grace expires than to attempt to earn XP quickly but risk losing all your money when your Crops wither on the field before you can harvest them!

There is an old adage to the effect that 'All things come to those who wait'. It certainly is true where Farming Simulation Games are concerned. It is when you cannot exercise patience that you will be tempted to spend REAL money on virtual expansions or items that can boost your XP rather than allowing your careful and regular farming labours to work for you. I am as guilty of impatience as any one when a game takes my fancy.

In Lovely Farm, I became impatient last night to reach the next Level and planted almost my entire field with Raspberries when I should have known better. Having had little sleep during the previous night, it was a mistake to plant a fast-growing Crop at night. Although I planned to stay awake to watch a programme on the telly, I fell asleep and missed the deadline for the harvest. I awakened a few hours later with grim foreboding that was realised when I reached my Farm and found it filled with withererd Crops. It costs 10 Coins to till any square in Lovely Farm. I therefore had to pay a tidy sum to remove the Withered Crops from my field without earning a single Coin for the harvest. I did not want any of my Neighbours to visit my farm to witness my shame, so I tried to remove the offensive evidence quickly. When I had done so, I did not have sufficient coins to replant! I should have taken a screenshot of the sorry picture of a farm choked with Withered Raspberries as a stark warning to other players.

The only positive note in this tale was that I did reach Level 15 but it would have been far better to have earned some money in the process. Climbing back from a financial disaster like can be difficult. Fortunately, the game awards you a small sum of Coins on a daily basis and you can earn more coins by visiting Neighbours to chase pests from their Farms. If they have been diligent in planting Crops, you can earn extra money by fertilising three Squares and watering three Crops on each Farm. If you have good Neighbours who visit you regularly, you can earn +2 XP when harvesting the Crops they have fertilised.

More Enthusiasm for Lovely Farm

Most Farming Simulation games begin slowly and it is only when you increase your Levels that you even become aware of half of the Options that exist for players who have demonstrated their determination to succeed. Where Harvest Moon and Rune Factory are concerned, strategy Guides and reviews often allow players to catch a glimpse (or more) of the rewards that await players. Where a game like Lovely Farm is concerned, it may be difficult for new players to summon the initial enthusiasm to 'stay the course' although I personally believe that it is well worth the effort.

Lovely Farm is more interactive than players may realise, as each Animal has different responses, depending on its status. A Pig will root for Truffles and a Horse will paw the ground, sending up a dust cloud. The Ostrich, when it has laid its egg, will look down at it in utter astonishment, then peer about as though to show the world how proud it is of its amazing accomplishment! When you collect the Egg, it will flutter its wings excitedly.

As my own levels increased, I began to enjoy landscaping even more, although it is possible to create charming Farms even at low levels. When I acquired Neighbours who were at very high Levels, I was able to see the real scope of the game and the wonderful items and possibilities that existed for those who continued to work on their farms assiduously.

I am hoping to be able to post some screenshots of the Farms that these Neighbours have created.

Animal Lists for Lovely Farm

Screenshot: On a Neighbour's Farm, two PorkyBees pull a Covered Waggon.

Animals

Animals in Lovely Farm like Decor are divided into two basic Categories. There are those that can be obtained only as Gifts from another Player and those that can be purchased in the Shop. Some Gift Animals have a purchase price but others are free.
A third Category of Animal is the 'Seasonal' or Limited Edition Animals that are Fantasy Animals that could not be found in Nature.

Beehives are considered Animals as they contain Bees. All Animals, including the Seasonal Animals and Beehives, yield Harvests, distinguishing them from Decorative Items. Decor yields XP and Charm when first placed but will not yield any further benefits although removing them from the Farm will result in a Charm deduction equal to that given when they were placed initially.

Crop Lists for Lovely Farm

Screenshot of Crops including Cabbages

******************************************************************************
The following is taken from my Lovely Farm Guide but I have added more details to the list than the game itself provides by giving the actual profit made with each Crop as well as the maximum profit that can be made in any 24 hour period if you grow the Crop repeatedly. The insanity necessary to grow a Crop that takes 2 hours to mature 12 times in a 24 hour period may not surface in every player, but I felt that the information would be useful nonetheless.

Crop Lists

Crop Lists

The foundation of any Farming Simulation Game is Crops and Lovely Farm is no exception in this respect. It is by planting and harvesting Crops that you will make money fastest and gain the Experience you need to increase your Levels.

Most of the information given by the game for any Crop is self-explanatory. As previously discussed, you will gain the specified XP BOTH when you plant the Seeds and when you harvest the Crop. The Collection time is the same as the time it takes for the Crop to mature and signifies the 'grace period' you will have before the Crop withers.

As discussed in the section that deals with the goal of gaining Experience Points to increase your Level, the trick in this game is to find the Crops that give the greatest amount of Experience in the shortest amount of time, unless your own real schedule will not allow you to access Lovely Farm before the Crop withers! Players with infrequent access to the internet are advised to choose slow-growing Crops as the Collection period will equal the period of growth and thus, a Crop that takes four days to grow should remain fresh in the ground for another four days, although it is wisest to harvest Crops before the grace period expires.

Information that has been added to give players an idea of how they can maximise their profits is the actual profit earned from each Harvest as well as the maximum amount of profit that can be earned by growing and harvesting the Crop repeatedly in any 24 hour period. With respect to some fast-growing Crops, the information will be academic where most players are concerned, as it would require that a player spend his/her ENTIRE day and night in planting and harvesting the Crop.

Note that the amount of income that will be deducted for any repeat planting will be 10 Coins per square or Crop. This factor has not been included in the profit figures.

Introduction to Lovely Farm on Facebook

Lovely Farm is one of the many Farming Simulation Games available on Facebook. It is fairly straightforward, although there evidently are plans to expand it by adding Quests and Awards. It is not as well-established at this point in time as Farmville, but it has rather detailed graphics that lend it a fairytale quality. Created in Russia, a Farm in Lovely Farm would not be out of place as an illustration in a 19th century book of fairytales or folktales.

Unlike Fantasy Kingdoms, however, which places your Character at the top of the social scale with a Market that sells Castles and Towers, Lovely Farms is at the opposite end, with Forest Huts suitable for simple peasant farmers. Some luxury items are sold, however, including Caviar, but the landscape and buildings are very much the realm of peasants and woodcutters.

Crops are beautifully conceived and are large and lustrous. While realistic, their appearance is idealised to some extent as are the Crops in any farming simulation game. Carrots and Onions are perfectly formed and brilliantly coloured. They go through a number of different phases during their growth period. Whenever you access any Crop with your cursor, you will see its growth as a percentage figure. 100% obviously indicates that the Crop is ready for harvest.

Animals can be a little more fanciful than the Crops. Apart from ordinary Animals such as Cows, Pigs and Sheep, there is a Category of 'Seasonal' Animals as Limited Editions that could be found only in the world of fantasy. These include a FlutterGoat, a PorkyBee, a FlyingCow, a FancyPig and a Lady Cow.

As in Farmville and Fantasy Kingdoms, Crops are time-limited and will wither if you do not harvest them. Unlike most other Farming Simulation games on Facebook, you have the option to water any Crop once during its growing period. Watering a Crop will give you +1 XP although it is not mandatory. A failure to water your Crop before it ripens will not cause it to wither before its time.

You will otain the XP for any Crop that you plant at the time of planting as well as +1 XP in addition for the Crop when you harvest it successfully. This game offers more strategical choices than many of the farming simulation games on Facebook, as there are a number of Crops with similar time periods and similar XP but with different Prices. Once you become established and price is not an issue, you may choose the more expensive Crop, but when you first begin the game and have little income, you may wish to earn the highest amount of experience with the least amount of expense.

For example, Onion Seeds cost 16 Coins, take 10 Hours to mature, yield 31 Coins and give 2 XP. Strawberries cost 21 Coins, likewise take 10 Hours to mature, yield 38 Coins and give 2 XP. It may be in your interest to choose Onions instead of Strawberries at the outset if your income is limited.

Experience really is your primary aim at the start, apart from keeping your Farm solvent. You cannot expect to make a large profit until your Levels increase. You therefore should choose Crops that give the greatest amount of XP in the shortest amount of time.

Compare Carrots with Red Onions, for example. A Carrot takes three days to mature and gives 5 XP. Red Onions take four days to mature and give 5 XP as well. You essentially will waste a day by planting Red Onions once Carrots have been unlocked.

There are a few Crops that give 2 XP in 10 Hours but Cabbages give 2 XP in only 8 Hours. It therefore is better to plant Cabbages than Onions or Strawberries in terms of maximising Experience.

If you can access the game frequently at the start, you may wish to plant the fastest growing Crops such as White Radish, a Crop that takes only 4 Hours to mature. In Lovely Farm, XP Gains are related to the amount of time that the Crop requires to grow. Maize takes 6 Hours to mature and gives 1 XP. White Radishes take only 4 Hours to grow and likewise give 1 XP. If you can access the game frequently, you can obtain more XP Gains by growing White Radishes than Maize as you will be able to plant and harvest six plantings of White Radish in a 24-hour period as opposed to only four plantings of Maize.

If you wish to increase your Levels quickly and opt to plant Raspberries, you are best served to keep the game on the screen from the time of planting to the time of Harvest, making certain that you water them before they reach 100% maturity. If you miss the grace period allowed after the Crop matures, you will waste the money that you paid for the Crops as well as being forced to pay to retill the soil. It costs 10 Coins to till any square in Lovely Farm. If an entire field filled with Raspberries withers, you will have to pay a tidy sum to remove the Withered Crops from your field without earning a single Coin for the harvest.

Do not expect to make much profit initially. You aim must be to gain as much Experience (XP) as possible rather than to make a profit. After all, any money that you make through your Farming efforts needs to be plowed back into the soil. If you 'break even' in the first week, you will be doing well. Using the Free Gifts that Neighbours send to you will give you a small profit if they send Pigs, Ostriches, Olive and Orange Trees. The best Gift in monetary terms in the early stages is the Pig, who will give you +60 Coins every two days from the Truffles he finds.

A Farm in Lovely Farm would not be out of place as an illustration in a 19th century book of fairytales or folktales.

Unlike Fantasy Kingdoms, however, which places your Character at the top of the social scale with a Market that sells Castles and Towers, Lovely Farms is at the opposite end, with Forest Huts suitale for simple peasant farmers.

Animals can be a little more fanciful. Apart from ordinary Animals such as Cows, Pigs and Sheep, there is a Category of 'Seasonal' Animals that could be found only in the world of fantasy.

You will otain the XP for any Crop that you plant at the time of planting.

Gift Strategies

In any Farming Simulation game on Facebook, the Gifts that Friends/Neighbours can send to you daily can be a great boon to you, especially at the start. In Lovely Farm, the Gift Menu includes a couple of Animals and Trees that are available at Level 1 to send as Gifts. These are the items that generate income regularly and the value is as follows:

Free Trees:

Orange Tree: +8 Coins
Olive Tree: +15 Coins

Free Animals:

Ostrich:
Egg: +30 Coins
Pig:
Truffles: +60 Coins

Unlike Crops, Fruits on Trees and Ranch Products will last indefinitely once they become ready for harvest. You therefore should not underestimate the value of these items on your Farm. Trees, Ranch Products and Decorative Items all give XP when first set on your Farm as well.

Other Free Trees and Animals are unlocked as Gifts at higher Levels. The complete List of Gift Items is given in another Post.

You are given the opportunity to send 15 Free Gifts per day to your Neighbours. As far as the Gifts with a price are concerned, there is no limit evidently to the number that can be sent. You could send both a Free Gift and a Paid Gift to the same Neighbour in any given day.
